TS Recs: Noise Pop 2020

Noise Pop Music and Arts Festival 2020 kicks off next week! Wether you attend a show this year or not, we invite you to listen to our favorites from this year’s lineup.

Aaron Axelsen - Music Director of local radio station Alt 1053, founder of Popscene, DJ, and Bay Area staple. Axelsen’s DJ sets draw from a wide range of genres.

Ami Dang - Baltimore based ambient musician. Mixes sitars and synthesizers to create dynamic, ambient soundscapes.

 

Mirah - Brooklyn based musician and songwriter.  Her haunting vocals and lo-fi, punk-like production blends into experimental indie pop perfection.

 

Tall Heights - Boston based indie folk duo with soaring harmonies that float above a subtle mix of acoustic and electronic elements.

Mary Lattimore - LA based classically trained harpist and experimental musician who weaves cinematic soundscapes from silence.

 

Vacationer - Philadelphia based electronic project with dreamy, psychedelic pop leanings and break-beat inspired percussion.

Suzi Analogue - NY based recording artist who blends hip hop sensibilities with vocal processors to create a sonic dreamworld all her own.

Shigeto - Brooklyn based electronic musician, whose beat driven, jazz based compositions traipse effortlessly through a multitude of genres.

 

Hikes - Austin based quartet blending technical, math-like guitar work with dense, emotive vocals; a nexus point between folk, indie, metal and math rock.

 

Have Mercy - Baltimore based alternative/ post hardcore band with a small dash of emo and a large helping of nostalgia. This is their final tour!

 

Experimental Housewife - San Francisco based experimental electronic producer, DJ, and label owner. ExHouse's aesthetic merges a myriad of influences and eras to create a hypnotic, industrial ambience.

Computer Data - San Francisco based electronic music producer and owner of Pure Bread Records. Lo-fi house with an air of 90’s nostalgia.

Baltra - NY based electronic artist by way of Philadelphia. Purveyor of shadowy, lofi house; a romanticization of late night loneliness.

Kornél Kovács - Sweden based house producer with deep roots in the Stockholm music scene. Kovács' tunes are buoyant, festive, and layered.

Chaos in the CBD - New Zealand based duo - Brothers who produce mellow, late night house music.

 

Mahawam - Oakland based producer, artist, rapper/ vocalist forging a fresh path forward with a tool kit full of life experience, hip hop, pop, r&b, and eloquence.

The Seshen - Bay Area based six-piece fusing elements of R&B, synth-pop, and electronic music, beneath the unmistakable vocals of Akiyoshi Ehara.

Habibi - New York based five-piece girl group who blend Middle-Eastern melodies with psychedelic, garage rock.

 

Sudan Archives - Los Angeles based singer and violinist whose beats blend sultry vocals and an R&B aesthetic with compelling helpings of violin.

 

The Jungle Giants - Australian based indie dance quartet, whose driving beats and sparkling synths seamlessly blend into earworms you can’t help but sing along to.

 

Heno. - Oakland based creative, rapper, producer and first generation Ethiopian-American. His style is self described as “alternative soul”; combining elements of hip-hop, r&b, and soul.

Injury Reserve - Arizona based hip-hop trio with refreshingly frenetic beats, production, and delivery.

 

Barrio Manouche - San Francisco based international septet with influences as wide as the band's worldly origins. Complex, euphonious, and enthralling world music.

 

The Onyx - Oakland based, all black, female, six piece music ensemble. Rekindling the early 90's/ 00's R&B girl group sound, alongside an eclectic mix of rock, electronic, and latin vibes.

 

Resavoir - Chicago based artist and improviser collective, performing songs written and directed by trumpeter Will Miller. An illustrious collaborator, Miller’s compositions are thoughtful, soulful, and sprawling.

 

Imperial Teen - San Francisco based indie-pop/ alt-rock outfit hailing from the late 90’s era.

 

Salami Joe Rose Louis - Bay Area based producer and composer. Self described as “haphazard.” It’s no surprise she signed to Brainfeeder in 2019.

 

Mannequin Pussy - Philadelphia based indie/ punk band whose chaotic melodies elegantly intertwine with vulnerable, honest vocals.

 

Kilo Kish - Brooklyn based singer-songwriter, rapper and visual artist. Her work ranges between art pop and experimental hip hop; always managing to stay exciting.

 

M. Bootyspoon - Montreal based ghettohouse revivalist, creating playful, compelling grooves.

NAVVI - Seattle based electronic duo creating propulsive and moody synth-Pop.

Jacques Greene - Toronto based DJ and electronic music producer of sprawling experimental house.

 

Raphael Saadiq - Oakland based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Saadiq is our local R&B/ soul legend.

 

Maya Jane Coles - UK based DJ, producer and engineer. She composes and plays techno from a wide spectrum of influences.

 

Femmelectric - San Francisco based DJ, event coordinator, and vital member of the Bay Area music community. Her sets often transcend mood or genre - a true chameleon, adapting to the room or a mood as she pleases.

Washed Out - Georgia based singer-songwriter and electronic producer of chillwave/ synth pop.

 

Rose Droll - SF based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a bedroom pop aesthetic.

 

Pendant - Oakland based multi instrumentalist whose latest is a lush, shoegazey, slowcore testament to 90’s rock.

 

Meernaa - Oakland based four piece creating soulful, bluesy tunes grounded by the thoughtful lyrics of vocalist Carly Bond.

 

ZOLA - San Francisco based singer-songwriter whose dreamy, jazzy compositions are hard to fit into one box.
