Glow Up 5.0

“The Return of the Glow Up” (Illustrator)

Glow Up 5.0 - the fifth annual gathering of some of my favorite humans on the entire planet. This year, I created a poster behind the scenes as a gift and tribute to our friend James, who created the concept and spearheads the organization and execution each year.

I took a LOT of inspiration (RE: blatantly copied in some cases) from the iconic artwork of James’ favorite band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I knew that the center piece needed to be him as the titular Lizard Wizard, so I set off to cobble together a handful of images in order to bring it to life.

This is the initial sketch (Procreate)

Once I was able to get Jame’s face into a place that was respectable and not laughable (still chuckling about some of the outtakes), I exported a PDF and ran down to my local print shop (shout out to Copy Edge on Ocean!). I printed one version at 18” x 24” and 25 at 11” x 17”. The latter were handed out after the event, the former was stationed in a bespoke tent I called “The Black Light Lounge”.

Throughout the weekend, friends were invited to color the 18” x 24” poster with fluorescent markers under a blacklight. The final poster will be framed soon :)

The entire thing was not only inspired by James and the energy he is capable of cultivating, but from growing up and spending time with my Aunt and cousins in Marysville, Ca. When I was younger, my Aunt had the coolest black light posters - and she would somehow come up on “blank” ones that we would spend hours coloring, pouring over every last detail. I’m extremely proud to have brought a little slice of my childhood to this event.

“Welcome to the Glow Up 5.0” (Illustrator)

Glow Up 5.0 took place up in northern California, on a close friend’s property. The property was purchased with the intention of throwing events and festivals, and as soon as that intention was shared with me - I dreamed of creating an official festival map for the grounds.

The love and intention that goes into this event was the perfect opportunity to bring this dream to life. Not only was the entirety of the land being activated in different ways, but there were enough newcomers that a clear and concise map was actually a bit of a necessity.

These were ultimately printed and posted in numerous places on site and turned out to be mostly accurate!

“Serving up this Weekend at Chez Glizzé” (Illustrator)

The weekend wouldn’t be complete without an official food menu and beverage list.

Meals and cocktails were designed ahead of the event and in bulk to accommodate upwards of fifty people. It all went down without a hitch too!

I can’t wait to see what we can come up with at Glow Up 6.0 ~
